Community Research in Environment and Development Initiatives (CREADIS) was formed and registered by the Kenyan NGO Coordination Board in 2000. CREADIS aims at empowering communities by building their capacities in most key areas to enable them become self-reliant and drive their own development process, through links with public, private and NGO agencies. The idea to form CREADIS was driven by the realization that there were high poverty levels in Western Kenya and the situation was escalating hence more concerted and coordinated efforts were needed to address the situation. The Organization is working through several sectors to address the different needs of the community. These include: HIV/AIDS, Governance and human rights, food security, environmental conservation and promotion of income generation opportunities. It is registered as a National Organization with mandate to work in Western Kenya and the North Rift. CREADIS is currently working in: Bungoma (East, West, North, South), Teso, Busia and Mumias in western province.
